What qualifications do you need to do hypnotherapy?
In the UK, you do not need a specific degree or previous career in psychology or healthcare to become a hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy is not currently regulated by law in the same way as professions such as medicine or clinical psychology. However, professional hypnotherapists should complete comprehensive training that provides the theoretical knowledge, practical experience and ethical understanding required to work responsibly with clients.

How long does it take to become a hypnotherapist?
How long it takes to become a hypnotherapist depends on the type and depth of training you choose. Although basic hypnosis techniques can be learned relatively quickly, becoming a competent professional practitioner requires considerably more study and practical experience.
Our Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis with Psychotherapy is delivered over 10 weekends across approximately one year. This gives students time to develop their knowledge, practise techniques and build confidence progressively rather than attempting to learn everything through a short intensive course. KICH training follows the National Curriculum for Hypnotherapy and surpasses national occupational standards.
Do hypnotherapists make money?
Yes. Qualified hypnotherapists can charge clients for professional hypnotherapy sessions and may work either full-time or alongside another career. However, there is no guaranteed income.
Earnings vary according to factors such as your location, experience, fees, number of clients and how you choose to operate your practice. Self-employed hypnotherapists also need to account for business expenses such as insurance, premises, professional memberships and marketing, all of which we discuss on the training course.
Developing a successful practice therefore involves more than becoming an effective hypnotherapist. It also requires the skills and commitment needed to establish and manage a professional business.
Can I become a hypnotherapist?
You do not need previous experience in hypnotherapy, psychology or healthcare to start your journey towards becoming a hypnotherapist. People enter the profession from a wide range of backgrounds and at different stages of their careers.
What matters is a willingness to learn, practise and develop the communication, therapeutic and ethical skills required when working with clients.
