Getting to Medway by car

From the M25: Take the A2 southbound (Junction 2) signposted Canterbury. After approximately six miles, at the junction where the A2 and the M2 split, take the far left lane and follow signs to Gillingham and Grain, A289. Follow the brown anchor signs for Chatham Maritime at first. At the first roundabout take the second exit straight ahead towards Gillingham. At the next roundabout, take the left filter lane. At the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, take the first exit lane marked “Tunnel” and drive through the Medway Tunnel.

At the first set of traffic lights after exiting the tunnel (by the police headquarters) turn right and then  go to the next set of traffic lights,  turn right into Medway Road and follow the road for approx. 800 yards.  The College will be found on the right with the car park.

From the South East: From the Channel Tunnel take the M20 and leave at junction 6 taking the A229 towards Chatham/Rochester. Then join the M2 and head north to Junction 1 and into the A289 for Gillingham as above. Alternatively you can use the A2/M2 to the same point.

From East Kent: Take the A2/M2 towards London. Exit at Junction 4 and take the A278 towards Gillingham.

Getting to Medway by Bus:

Arriva runs a frequent service to the MidKent College campus at Gillingham with ‘X-Bus 116’. This runs between Chatham, the Universities at Medway CampusMidKent College, Gillingham, Rainham, Parkwood and Hempstead Valley.

Buses run every 20 minutes for the main part of the day on Mondays to Fridays and every 30 minutes on Saturdays.

Most X-Bus 116 journeys are provided by our state-of-the-art buses which were bought especially for this route at the beginning of 2012.

If you travel from other parts of Medway or beyond, then you can change onto X-Bus 116 at Chatham Waterfront Bus Station.

There are also some direct buses to the college on Monday to Friday mornings from Maidstone, Davis Estate, Gravesend, Chalk, Higham, Grain, the Hoo Peninsula, Strood and Rochester.

These take you direct to MidKent College without needing to change buses in Chatham.

Getting to Medway by Train:

All train services into the Medway towns are operated by Southeastern trains. Chatham Station has the best connections and is a 10 minute bus ride away from campus. Gillingham Station is closer, taking around 20 minutes on foot or connected by the 116 bus route.

Trains from London Victoria, Cannon Street, Charing Cross and London Bridge stations have frequent direct services to Chatham and Gillingham. The journey takes 45–60 minutes from London to Chatham. There are also services direct from Greenwich, Falconwood and New Eltham but on these services a change is usually necessary at Charlton or Dartford.

There are also regular high speed trains from St Pancras station, London to Chatham taking just 40 minutes.

It is possible to travel on high speed train from the continent and trains stop at either Ebbsfleet or Ashford.
